Things You Should Know About the Sky Sox Fundraiser:

·         The Sky Sox organization requires that all workers in the Sky Sox Concession stands wear a uniform. Our workers wear the following items:

o         Closed toe shoes

o         Khaki pants or shorts

o         Grey shirt (Students can wear their band shirt.)

§         If you do not have these items, we suggest going to a discount or thrift store such as the Arc or Goodwill. Remember, you will be working with food, and the clothes that you wear in the stand may get dirty or stained. It is not necessary to spend a great deal of money purchasing these items.

o         Long hair must be confined

o         NO HATS

·         Please bring your own personal beverage containers (i.e. water bottles). The Sky Sox organization does not provide these to us. The cups provided by the Sky Sox organization are for the customers only.

·         If a student is under the age of 16, the student’s parent must work the same shift as the student. (This is a rule set forth by the stand managers and must be followed if we are to continue to have this opportunity.)

·         Please be aware of the game times for the dates that you sign up for so that they do not conflict with other commitments you may have. The schedule includes the time the game starts for each date the stand is expected to be open, and directly below the game time, the time we must arrive is also noted.

·         We operate stand #1. As you enter the stadium, turn to the right and ours is the farthest stand down.

·         Please call Sky Sox Stadium at 597-2045 extension 365 before your scheduled time to verify that the stand will be open for that date, especially on days with bad weather conditions.

·         The concession stand does serve beer and ONLY ADULTS may pour or serve beer, and ONLY ADULTS may take payment for beer. Your cooperation in this is necessary and greatly appreciated.

·         It is important that you take your commitment to work a particular game seriously. We understand that emergencies do come up, and we will make every effort to fill your spot if you find that you are not able to work a shift for which you have volunteered, however please be sure to sign up for dates that do not conflict with other commitments. It is difficult to operate the stand without a full staff. We have made every effort to include other activities within the band program that may conflict with available Sky Sox games. If you sign up for a date and later find that you are not able to keep that commitment, please notify us as soon as you know that you will not be able to work by sending an email to skysox@prideofdoherty.com. Email is the most effective way to communicate information, but if email is unavailable to you please call Wanda Patterson at (989) 751-7166 and leave a message.

·         When signing up for dates to work the concession stand, please also keep in mind that it is important that all workers stay until the stand is closed and clean before leaving so that equal credit is given for equal work to all who have participated in that day’s concession stand.

·         The schedule of workers will be located on the Sky Sox Fundraiser page of the Doherty Band website (www.prideofdoherty.com) as soon as it is completed so that you can check the days you have signed up for whenever it is convenient for you. We will also be making calls to remind you no less than one day prior to your scheduled shift.

·         If you would like to be an alternate, you can either sign up for specific dates that you know will work with your schedule, or you can provide us with your name, phone number and email address if you have open availability and would be willing to cover shifts as needed.

·         The Sky Sox fundraiser is an excellent opportunity for the band program to raise funds without having to sell to our friends, family, neighbors and coworkers. It allows the students to earn their own money for band related expenses, and gives parents a way to meet other parents in the program. If you are able and available, please take the opportunity to participate.

·         Only parents and high school students are able to work and/or be in the concessions stand. If you have younger children, please do not bring them with you when you come to work.

·         There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts that you can work per season. Sign up for as many or as few dates as you would like.

·         The stand manager (an employee of the organization that so generously gives us the opportunity) is in charge of those working the stand. Any direction given by the stand manager should be taken seriously and acted upon immediately. The stand manager is also who advises us when we have completed our responsibilities and allows us to leave. It is very important that we do what is asked of us by the stand manager.

·         When you work a shift, be sure to sign in. If you are an adult working the stand, please be sure to include your student’s name on the sign in sheet in the spot indicated. If you do not sign in we do not have any way of knowing that you were there to work the shift. If you are not listed on the sign in sheet for your game, or you are an adult working with no indication of the student for which you are working, we will not be able to credit your student’s account. This is your responsibility and if you fail to do so, there will be no documentation to support that you or your student worked. The sign in sheet will be in the same location for EVERY game. DO NOT remove the sign in sheets from their designated location.

·         The Sky Sox schedule is subject to change. If games are rained out, they may be rescheduled at a later date at the discretion of the Sky Sox organization. In the event that we need to fill additional dates or games become double headers, we will notify you of these changes as soon as they are known to us. .

·         Please remember that this is a fundraiser for the Doherty Band Program. No actual money will change hands, and if you have worked shifts during the summer and your student later is unable to or chooses not to participate in the program, there will be no “refund” of any funds allocated to your student’s account. The allocated funds that had been directed to your student’s account will instead be transferred back to the general band fund.

·         The concessions stand is a wonderful opportunity for us to bring Doherty High School and the Doherty Band Program into the public eye. It builds awareness in the community about the quality program that Doherty offers our students. At the same time, how the volunteers working in the stand act and treat those customers who choose our stand also reflects upon Doherty High School and the band program. Please act accordingly and treat each other, customers, and our stand manager with respect.

·         Each shift worked will result in a $20.00 credit to your student’s account. While some may think that this is not much for approximately 5 hours of work, this fundraiser is also about meeting and getting to know other band students, and for parents to get to know one another also. It is a way for us to build the “band family” which is an important part of the continued success of the Doherty Band program.
